Got to the Garden early and the sky was a clear wintery blue that I knew it was going to be a great day!
The kids came down to the Garden all dressed up in Halloween costumes, all really keen to get carving. After washing their hands they set about carving the tops off and scooping out the middle. Then came the fun part, carving out their designs! With scary faces to bats and cats, everyone had a different idea and had fun using a knife safely.
After the kids had a go al the adults had a turn and what a bunch of talented volunteers we have! Check out the photos in the Photo Gallery and you also will be astounded by the detail of some of these pumpkins!
Everything they scooped out was used to make pumpkin soup and a pumpkin curry. Claire did a fantastic job in preparing the lunch for us all that was enjoyed in the warmth of the Learning Cabin.
We also had a treat of roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin and cinnamon cake, green and orange cakes, and fairy cakes with chocolate on top!
We even managed to get a bit of gardening done! Leaves were swept up and placed in bags or on the compost, and the last of the rhubarb was taken off. Next week we will pick the brussel sprouts, blanch them and then freeze them for christmas.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for the day :)
