Seeds galore

A very busy day planting seeds, re-potting seedlings and watering! The sun even came out!
Squashes have gone in as have another bed of beetroot and some more potatoes.
Due to the warmer weather over the last week things are starting to look very green. Our first potatoes are bursting out of the ground and the red onion sets have finally caught up with the white onions.
The rhubarb is ready to pull so when we will be ready to make our first chutney of the year very soon!

In the afternoon we had visit from Cllr Shimmin who had heard all about us but had not visited before.
All in all a great day.

It has been a glorious day at the Garden! The sun was out and sky was blue. We even got some work done.

It is amazing how after a little heat the plants respond so positively! We now have potato leaves properly out of the ground, the onion leaves have got longer and longer, plus the beetroot is looking on fine form.

We also spent part of the day digging out the grass from around the bottom of the trees in the orchard and surrounding them with wood chip. We'll do a few each week as it is really hard work.

We closed up a little early to be able to join in with the St George's Day celebrations up the town. Whilst we were in town we donated one of the hanging baskets to the Leatherhead Museum to brighten up their garden :)

Baby chickens out on their own + potatoes!

Fun and games were had in the Garden as we met for the first Saturday in April. Lots of digging over of beds and planting potatoes plus getting stuck in old tyres (check out the photos)...!

On top of that we built an outdoor run for our two baby/teenage chickens. They will be out in this run until it is time to eat them! This run was also made with another purpose in mind. It is the same width as our planting beds which allows us to put it on top of the soil during the autumn to allow the chickens to do the hard work of digging up the soil, removing the leaves and adding nutrients to the soil (in other words adding chicken manure straight from source!)
