Love to write? Want to help out a local not-for-profit community project?

Well we would like to talk to you!

At Leatherhead Community Garden we were so busy in 2015 that we forgot to write ANY blog posts! Whether it was something we had achieved or something cool we found out.. we forgot to share the love.

We would like to invite people to work with us to put down in words what makes our garden great. After all 'sharing is caring'!

if you think you would be interested in volunteering with us to help keep our website up to date email us at [email protected] and tell us you are interested!

Attack of the Flying Ants

It was so HOT today! And we had work to do in the poly tunnel! Madness!!!!
We are really pleased with what we achieved though. Pumpkins out, beetroot planted, peas harvested as well as some mystery potatoes from the compost bin found.
After noticing last week the severe lack of bees in the Garden compared to last year, we counted at least 15 honeybees as well as some buff tails on the alliums! Plus the Small Tortoiseshell pictured below!
Also had a lovely visit from a gentleman who found us on TripAdvisor! The power of the internet!

Grass grass and more grass

This weekend was mainly spent cutting the grass, a bit of weeding and doing some last prep for Ashtead Village Day. We also looked at the trees and decided that they will need covering over the next few weeks to prevent someone or something from eating the fruit as it matures.
Also noticed that the slugs have been out in force so we need to get our slug traps in next week. We fill them with left over beer (if such a thing exists) which entices the slugs to go and take a drink instead of nibbling our plants.
Finally, we had a visit from a local resident at the end of the day who kindly gave us a few bean plants along with a courgette plant. Thank you!

Had a busy weekend doing lots of maintenance jobs. Fixed the poly tunnel guttering which fell off a little, fixed the fruit cage netting and started to prepare things for Ashtead Village Day. We have a stall again, so do come and visit us on Saturday 14th June.

We also had a visit from the organisers of the Leatherhead Open Gardens. For more info, please visit http://leatherheadparish.com/events/event/open-gardens/

Taking the shed back to the Garden took longer than expected.... With broken wheels and electric bikes it made for great entertainment for all!

We took over the Swan Shopping Centre for four days over Easter to show off our Garden. By making a pretend garden in the shopping centre people could see what we do on Saturdays - from planting to cooking and chilling out.

We even took our tool shed to town, dressed it up and made a "selfie shed" !

"Hobbit house"

Last week Phil made some lovely wooden chairs by upcycling some wooden pallets. Today we made a "Hobbit house" in the enchanted orchard. We constructed it from long sticks and willow, with a wood chip floor. It was fun!!!
We planted up some more flowers and veg, and Phil cooked up a lovely lunch - wraps with fresh veg and some yummy dips.
After lunch we decided to follow in Phil footsteps and upcycle some old wood ourselves. We made a new display board and Phil made a start on a new three seater for the Garden.
To finish off a huge hail storm hit. The hail stones were mahoosive!
Overall a very productive day.
