Ruth Wheeler came to visit us again today to see how we were getting on. She was really excited to see how much progress we had made since her last visit. We all sat down around the willow tree and discussed different ideas for the herb beds and the seating area. Lots of ideas were bounced about and we finally came to the idea of "thrones" around the tree! We are now very much looking forward to these being designed and carved by volunteers on the 16th August (details to follow!).
As well as all this blue sky thinking... peppers were potted on, spring onions were transfered to an outside bed, the polytunnel door was fixed, work benches were made in the polytunnel, the watering system was altered, the beds were weeded, and then there was alot of playing in the water sprinklers!!!! Mange tout and spring onions were also harvested plus the dwarf beans will be ready for picking next week.

Quite a laid back weekend. We let Simon potter along so he cold finish constructing the beds ready for the soil to be put in. The rest of us tended to the garden. We had a lovely donation of strawberry plants from Flip Cargill which were planted into the fruit cage to start off our collection of fruit. Thank you Flip!
I'd also like to thank Pat, a regular volunteer, for all the donations she has made to the garden including bean plants, daisies and sunflowers! Along with her amazing gardening knowledge I'm not sure what we would do without her! Thank you Pat!

What a massive thank you to all that battled through the rain today. We even had two new volunteers and two visitors come down!
The main aim of today was to get through as much of the construction side of things. Beds needed building and filling with soil. So we cracked on and Simon did most of the lifting and shifting of those heavy sleepers. As a result, we finished putting together our first disabled access bed. All it needs now is filling with soil... Any volunteers for next week...???? Two other beds were completed and some of the cherry tomatoes got planted outside.
A team of three dug up any weeds that were in sight. They also sifted the soil to allow more oxygen into the ground. This really tidied up the beds and made them look alot fresher. 
The chickens played in the mud but soon went in for cover when the rain got heavier. Fresh water and food and they were very happy.
It is just such a shame the sun came out AFTER we left the garden! Take a look at our photos. I should have taken a picture of the state of my trainers and trousers when I got home! Oh well, it was lots of fun :)

A quiet one this weekend but still a mighty amount acheived. Racking for the polytunnel was purchased and arrived during the week. This was an easy job to do but we decided after making the first one that we sould make them outside of the polytunnel as it was just too hot! We were sweating buckets! Must be good for the plants though. After all six were made we had a well deserved break with the chickens. They had been let out to stretch their legs and we found them having a mud bath in the new soil! It was like giving a cat catnip!
We admired the signs that Claire had made for the garden. All the outside beds now have visual signs to indicate what is growing in each bed. At least now Gary doesn't need to ask "What is that!?"
Talking about Gary... His sunflower isn't doing too well! The sunflowers have shot up again leaving poor Gary's behind :( Any suggestions on giving it a boost!?

YAY! The chickens have been relocated to the garden! The cage was taken apart and painted before moved over to the garden in the school minibus. It did take us all day with plenty of tea breaks! I am so impressed with everyone today.
Two hoses were connected together to make a super long hose to reach the end of the garden. When we turned on the water it sprayed in three different directions!! A shorter variety of sunflower was planted into the flower bed and the whole place had a spring clean. My mum came to see the garden! She planted out the carrots into the veg bed :) Thanks mum!
More soil and sleepers are turning up next week to finish off the last beds and we have plenty of things to plant out into them once they are done.
